Rob Cross has won the Slovak Darts Open after facing Wessel Nijman in the final after both players came through Sunday night’s semi-finals in Bratislava.
Cross booked his place with a 7-2 win over Tom Sykes, while Nijman edged Ross Smith 7-6 to complete the final line-up at the inaugural European Tour event in Slovakia.
The final was confirmed after a busy evening session that also saw Cross beat Nathan Aspinall 6-2 in the quarter-finals and Nijman defeat Mike De Decker 6-3, according to the latest Slovak Darts Open results listed by Sky Sports.
Cross And Nijman Set Up Bratislava Decider
It gives Cross the chance to turn a strong week into a European Tour title after he also came through close contests against Kevin Doets and Gian van Veen earlier in the event.
Nijman’s route has been just as eye-catching. He beat Stephen Bunting 6-1 in the last 16, then backed it up by seeing off De Decker and Smith to reach the final.
The winner will leave Bratislava with a major momentum boost before the PDC circuit moves towards the World Matchplay build-up in July.
For Cross, the run still underlined his return to title contention. For Nijman, it became another statement against one of the sport’s established names.
