Lisa Ashton and Eleanor Cairns claimed the two PDC Women’s Series titles in Wigan on Sunday as Events 15 and 16 brought the weekend to a sharp close.
Ashton produced the headline result of Event 15 by beating Beau Greaves 5-1 in the final, ending Greaves’ bid to keep her winning run intact, according to the PDC’s latest Women’s Series round-up.
Cairns then followed with a breakthrough success in Event 16, edging Angela Kirkwood 5-4 in the final after a dramatic deciding leg. The result gave Cairns a maiden PDC Women’s Series title and also shaped the final race for Women’s World Matchplay qualification.
Ashton and Cairns change the Wigan storyline
Greaves had dominated the weekend conversation after another heavy run of titles, but Ashton restored her own authority with a statement final win. A 5-1 scoreline against the sport’s form player is not just a title result; it is a reminder that the Women’s World Matchplay champion remains a serious threat when the pressure lifts.
Cairns’ win carried a different weight. Kirkwood had the chance to force her way into the Matchplay picture, but Cairns held her nerve when the event was at its tightest.
The final Wigan session therefore delivered two different stories at once: Ashton halting Greaves in emphatic fashion, and Cairns stepping into the winner’s circle at a decisive point in the women’s season.
