Wessel Nijman moved into the Slovak Darts Open quarter-finals with a ruthless 6-1 win over Stephen Bunting in Bratislava on Sunday. The Dutchman closed the afternoon session at the Incheba Expo with the most one-sided result of the last 16, turning a high-profile meeting with Bunting into a statement victory on the European Tour.
The result was confirmed in the official PDC Europe match schedule, which lists Nijman as a 6-1 winner and places him into the evening quarter-finals against Mike De Decker.
Nijman Sets Up Mike De Decker Test
Nijman had already beaten Benjamin Pratnemer 6-2 in round two on Saturday, but this was a sharper warning to the remaining field. Bunting had survived a deciding-leg battle against Niels Zonneveld in his opener, yet Nijman gave him almost no route into the contest.
The win matters because the Slovak Darts Open is the first European Tour event staged in Slovakia, with £35,000 on offer to the champion and prize money counting towards the PDC Order of Merit, ProTour Order of Merit and European Tour Order of Merit.
Nijman now faces De Decker for a semi-final place, with Rob Cross, Nathan Aspinall, Tom Sykes, Jermaine Wattimena, Andrew Gilding and Ross Smith also still alive in the evening session.
