Andrew Gilding has knocked Michael van Gerwen out of the Slovak Darts Open with a 6-4 last-16 win in Bratislava. The Englishman produced one of the biggest results of finals day on Sunday, 21 June, ending Van Gerwen’s run before the evening quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
Van Gerwen had reached the last 16 after edging Krzysztof Ratajski 6-5 on Saturday night, but Gilding backed up his earlier win over Luke Woodhouse by taking out the second seed. The updated tournament results listed Gilding as a 6-4 winner with a 103.51 average, compared with Van Gerwen’s 98.16, according to DartsNews’ Slovak Darts Open results page.
It followed the earlier Michael van Gerwen and Andrew Gilding last-16 setup as the Bratislava draw moved into its final day.
Gilding Turns Wide-Open Draw Into Title Chance
The result matters because the Slovak Darts Open had already lost several major names before the business end. Gian van Veen and Gerwyn Price were beaten on Saturday, while Luke Littler and Luke Humphries were not in the Bratislava field after their World Cup of Darts success with England.
Gilding now moves into the evening session with momentum and a real route to the title. For Van Gerwen, it is a sharp halt after surviving a deciding-leg scare against Ratajski less than 24 hours earlier. Finals day continues with Chris Dobey against Ross Smith, Ryan Joyce against Mike De Decker and Stephen Bunting against Wessel Nijman still shaping the quarter-final lineup.
