Tom Sykes beat Jermaine Wattimena 6-2 at the Slovak Darts Open on Sunday night to reach the semi-finals in Bratislava.
The Englishman, already one of the stories of the tournament after his run through the opening rounds, kept his momentum going in the evening session at the Incheba Expo. The result was listed in the official tournament schedule, with Sykes moving past Wattimena after earlier beating Cameron Menzies in the last 16.
It extends a remarkable European Tour debut for Sykes, who has turned a first appearance on this stage into a genuine title push. Wattimena had reached the quarter-finals with a deciding-leg win over Danny Noppert, but Sykes controlled this one far more cleanly and closed it out 6-2.
Sykes Keeps Bratislava Run Alive
The win means Sykes is now one match from the inaugural Slovak Darts Open final, a major step for a player still building his reputation on the PDC ProTour.
The latest PDC Europe tournament update also confirmed Rob Cross beat Nathan Aspinall 6-2 and Ross Smith beat Andrew Gilding 6-4 in the same quarter-final session.
For Sykes, the significance is obvious: a debut weekend that began as an opportunity has become a deep run with ranking value, prize money and profile attached. The semi-final now gives him a chance to turn that surge into a first European Tour final.
