Gary Mawson David Cameron Decider Sharpens North American Darts Picture

Gary Mawson edged David Cameron 6-5 in the North American Championship quarter-finals at Madison Square Garden on Friday, before his New York run was ended by Adam Sevada in the last four.

The Canadian veteran came through the tightest match of the afternoon session, surviving a deciding leg against Cameron to join Jim Long, Fred Krueger and Sevada in the semi-final line-up.

It was a useful reminder of how unforgiving the North American route can be. Mawson was one leg from going out at the first hurdle, yet that 6-5 win briefly put him two victories away from the title, a World Championship place and a Grand Slam of Darts spot.

Mawson Run Shows Depth Behind Sevada

Sevada ultimately took control of the bracket, following a 6-0 win over Alex Spellman by beating Mawson 6-3 and then Jim Long 6-1 in the final. Still, Mawson’s quarter-final escape mattered because it removed Cameron, one of the most experienced Canadian names in the field, from the title race.

The full session results, listed by Sky Sports’ US Darts Masters report, also underlined how quickly the North American Championship flipped from open bracket to Sevada statement.

For Mawson, the semi-final defeat still gives his MSG campaign a clear marker: one pressure-leg win, one place in the final session picture, and another sign that North American darts is no longer short of credible challengers.
