Luke Littler Matchplay Condition Opens Door To Shock ProTour Return

Luke Littler has put a sharp condition on any 2026 PDC ProTour return. The world number one has opened the door to going back on the floor, but only if his World Matchplay title defence lands in Blackpool.

DartsNews reported that Littler has tied a possible ProTour comeback to the Matchplay, after skipping the Players Championship circuit across 2026. The line matters because it reframes his absence as leverage, not drift.

Littler’s floor route gets a Blackpool trigger

The PDC ProTour remains the weekly engine room of the professional game, feeding ranking pressure into events such as the Players Championship Finals and wider qualification races. Littler’s major-heavy schedule has made him an outlier: dominant on television, but selective away from it.

That selectivity is also visible in his wider calendar. Reports this week said Littler is set to take August off and miss the Australian Darts Masters and New Zealand Darts Masters, a decision NineDartNews has already covered in the context of his World Series workload.

Blackpool now becomes the pivot. The 2026 Betfred World Matchplay will test whether Littler’s trimmed schedule keeps him fresh enough to defend one of the sport’s most demanding titles.

If it does, the ProTour suddenly gains its biggest possible storyline: Littler returning to the floor by choice, not necessity.
