Devon Petersen has put a PDC return back on the agenda after saying he wants one more serious push at tour level while continuing his wider African darts work.
The South African, still one of the sport’s most recognisable global figures, made the claim in a new interview published on Sunday, 28 June. Petersen, now 40, has been away from the weekly ProTour grind since losing his Tour Card, but he told DartsNews that he still believes focused work could give him a route back.
The former German Darts Championship winner said the launch of his off-board projects has created space to reassess his own playing ambitions. His latest position lands at a useful time, with African Darts Group activity and South Africa’s continued World Cup presence keeping Petersen central to the continent’s PDC conversation.
Petersen comeback claim adds African edge to PDC race
This is not just a comeback line. Petersen also remains tied to a broader development argument after South Africa’s latest World Cup campaign and Uganda’s missed chance to make its debut because of travel document issues.
He framed that setback as a learning point for African Darts Group, the PDC and emerging nations, rather than a terminal blow. His view is that ability already exists across the continent, but access, finance and equipment remain the barriers.
If Petersen can sharpen his own game again, he returns as both a player and a visible proof point for the pathway he is trying to build.
