Cameron Menzies Leicester Deadline Keeps Blackpool Buffer In Focus

Cameron Menzies reaches the Players Championship 23-24 entry deadline with his World Matchplay place still protected, but not completely insulated.

The latest World Matchplay race has Menzies 29th on the main Order of Merit table at £346,250, with the Blackpool cut-off set for July 8. That leaves the Scot ahead of Kevin Doets, Joe Cullen, Ritchie Edhouse, Michael Smith and Peter Wright in the provisional 32-player picture.

The key detail is the timing. The PDPA calendar lists Players Championship 23 and 24 in Leicester on July 6 and July 7, with entries closing today at 2pm GMT. Those two floor events now sit directly in front of the Matchplay cut-off.

Why Leicester Still Matters

Menzies is not scrambling from the wrong side of the line, but his position remains exposed because the pack behind him has two ranking days left to move. The numbers make this less about panic and more about control.

  • Menzies: 29th, £346,250
  • Ritchie Edhouse: 32nd, £308,750
  • Michael Smith: 33rd, £301,500
  • Peter Wright: 34th, £290,750

That puts Menzies in a healthier place than the names chasing the line, but a quiet Leicester double-header would still invite pressure if Cullen, Edhouse or Smith produce a deep run.

NineDartNews has already tracked how the same Leicester deadline has sharpened the Ross Smith ProTour picture. For Menzies, the calculation is simpler: add enough prize money next week to turn a buffer into a booking.
