Luke Humphries became the first player to win back-to-back US Darts Masters titles in New York after beating Luke Littler 8-7 at the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.
The result itself has already travelled fast, but the sharper point for the PDC is what framed it: a sell-out 5,000 crowd, described as a US darts record, watching the world’s top two turn another England team-mate rivalry into a last-leg showpiece.
Humphries led 4-1, was dragged back by a Littler burst, then closed the final with an 11-darter in the deciding leg. The win gave him a third World Series of Darts title and made him the first player to retain the Big Apple crown.
Humphries keeps changing the Littler conversation
Littler’s nine 180s underlined how close the final became, but Humphries’ route through Stephen Bunting, Gian van Veen and Littler was the more complete statement. He averaged almost 106 against Bunting, survived two match darts against Van Veen, then still had enough control to land the defining leg of the night.
The official PDC report also confirms the full Friday sequence, with Littler beating Jim Long and James Wade before the final.
For Humphries, New York now looks less like a one-off stop and more like a stage he owns.
