Luke Littler has named Mitchell Lawrie as one of darts’ next young talents to watch and backed an expansion of the Premier League from eight players to 10.
The world champion made the comments in a quick-fire Q&A with The Athletic, with DartsNews reporting that Littler picked out the Scottish youngster when asked who could emerge next at the top end of the sport.
Lawrie reached the WDF World Championship final late last year and Littler’s endorsement adds another layer of attention around a player already viewed as one of Scotland’s most interesting prospects.
Littler Backs Bigger Premier League
Littler also used the same Q&A to call for a wider Premier League field, saying he would add two more players and make the weekly roadshow a 10-player competition.
The current Premier League Darts format features eight players, with Littler central to the event’s pulling power after his rapid rise through the PDC’s biggest televised stages.
His answer matters because the format debate has followed the competition for years: an expanded field would create more places for in-form names, but also more pressure on an already packed PDC calendar.
For Lawrie, the mention is a significant visibility boost. For the Premier League, it is another high-profile voice arguing that the sport’s growing depth should be reflected on Thursday nights.
