Gerwyn Price instantly reacts on social media after astonishing Premier League defeat

Night seven of the Premier League in Dublin didn’t disappoint, and Gerwyn Price was at the centre of the drama.

For the second time in the tournament, Price made the final after dropping just one leg against Josh Rock and Luke Humphries.

The Iceman was near unstoppable against the reigning Premier League champion, reducing him to just three darts at double, while averaging 109 and 66.67% (6/9) on the outer ring.

That set up a final against Luke Littler, and the fixture produced one of the most incredible moments in the competition’s history.

Following dominant displays against Rock and Humphries, Price’s level dropped in the final, but that didn’t stop him from racing into a 5-0 lead.

The Welshman didn’t give his opponent a sniff, and it took until leg six for Littler to have his first attempts at double, converting on double 10 after Price squandered a match dart.

A rare miss at double tops would prove costly for the 41-year-old, as Littler staged one of the most incredible comebacks the PDC has ever seen.

Down and out at 5-0 down, the Nuke survived five match darts and rattled off six legs in quick succession to secure his second nightly win and moved just three points behind Jonny Clayton.

As for Price, he remains in third on 12 points, and he seems happy about that despite losing from what looked like an improbable position.

“Another great night for me, three points in the bag and a nice weekend off. See you all in Berlin next week,” Price wrote on Instagram after the game.

The world No. 8 then announced in his next slide that he’s off to Benidorm this weekend for a much-needed break.

Price should make the play-offs

Letting an opponent come from five legs down to win will have been a horrible feeling, but Price is trying to look at it with a positive mindset.

He’s put another three points on the board, extending his lead inside the play-offs by two points and putting himself in a decent position to qualify for Finals Night at London’s 02 Arena.

Price’s start is a reflection of his consistency throughout the first seven weeks of the Premier League, so if he continues to perform at a world-class level, it’s difficult to imagine him finishing below fourth.

Only Clayton has a higher checkout percentage than the Iceman so far (43.87%). Meanwhile, his form away from the Premier League has been excellent.

He recently lost in a European Tour final against Wessel Nijman and won the Players Championship 6.
