Simon Whitlock Ally Pally Route Puts Trans-Tasman Deadline Into View

Simon Whitlock’s 2025 ANZ Premier League route to Alexandra Palace now has a sharper Oceanic sequel, with New Zealand’s Christchurch weekend set to help shape the first Trans-Tasman Championship field.

The PDC announced earlier this year that the new event would bring together the top 16 players from the Australian Darts Association and DartPlayers New Zealand systems, with a place at the 2026/27 Paddy Power World Darts Championship on offer. Darts World reported that the final 32-player event will be staged at Pine Rivers Darts Club in Brisbane from August 28-30, with the New Zealand places locked after the Christchurch events on July 5.

Oceanic race gains July pressure

That makes Saturday’s DPNZ stop more than another ranking weekend. It is the last New Zealand checkpoint before an event designed to sit alongside the ANZ Premier League champion and the two Oceanic Order of Merit pathways in the Ally Pally race.

For an Australian scene already energised by Tim Pusey’s Wollongong surge and Brody Klinge’s World Series return, the Trans-Tasman layer changes the calendar. Whitlock remains the reference point: a proven World Championship name whose route underlined the value of regional doors staying open.

The wider point is structural. Oceania now has another direct pressure event, and Christchurch will decide which New Zealand players arrive in Brisbane with the clearest shot at turning domestic form into an Alexandra Palace place.
