Rob Cross Leicester Return Turns PC22 Title Into ProTour Test

Rob Cross now has a sharper Leicester assignment than simple ranking maintenance. The former world champion heads towards the next Players Championship double-header with fresh momentum after ending his 2026 title wait in Wigan.

Cross claimed Players Championship 22 by beating Maik Kuivenhoven 8-5 in the final, taking seven straight wins and the £15,000 top prize. That result matters more now because the next ProTour entries are locked in.

Why Leicester now matters

The PDPA calendar lists Players Championships 23 and 24 for Leicester on July 6 and July 7, with the entry deadline set for Monday June 29 at 2pm GMT. That gives Cross a clean two-event platform before the Blackpool pressure fully hardens.

  • Event: Players Championships 23-24
  • Venue: Leicester
  • Dates: July 6-7, 2026
  • Key angle: Cross arrives with a 2026 title already banked

The timing is useful. Cross had not won a ranking title since the opening Players Championship event of 2025 before his Wigan run, according to the PDC. One strong week did not complete the rebuild, but it changed the immediate tone around him.

If Cross turns that Wigan title into another deep ProTour return, Leicester becomes more than a scheduling note. It becomes the next check on whether Voltage is back as a week-to-week threat, not just a former major champion timing one hot day well.
