Gerwyn Price has admitted his focus was split during the US Darts Masters in New York, raising a fresh question over his World Matchplay build-up.
The Welshman beat Brayden Hall 6-4 at Madison Square Garden, but his post-match comments carried more weight than the scoreline. Price said he had struggled for motivation before going on stage, with issues away from darts and a major home project competing for his attention, the Sun reported.
Why Price’s Timing Matters
Price is not a fringe name trying to talk his way into relevance. He remains one of the sport’s biggest-stage threats, and any admission about drifting focus lands differently with the World Matchplay approaching in July.
The 2021 world champion has built plenty of form in 2026, but the New York comments point to a more complicated picture. Price’s scoring power is rarely the concern. The issue, by his own account, is whether the edge that makes him so dangerous is fully there.
That gives Blackpool an extra layer. If Price rediscovers the bite quickly, the US Masters admission may become a passing footnote. If not, it will look like the first clear warning sign before one of the PDC calendar’s defining summer tests, particularly with every seeded player hunting momentum before the Winter Gardens lights go up.
