Gian van Veen confirms Premier League return ahead of Gerwyn Price showdown

Gian van Veen has confirmed his return to the Premier League for his quarter-final showdown with Gerwyn Price in Berlin.

Van Veen was ruled out of the action in Dublin last week after undergoing surgery to remove kidney stones.

The 23-year-old, who is currently sixth in the table and two points behind the play-offs after seven nights, has been spending the last six days recovering from the operation.

Van Veen even released footage of him throwing darts on social media earlier this week, accompanied by how he was feeling ahead of Thursday night.

Although he still felt fatigued and was struggling with a lack of energy, the Dutchman was hopeful of returning to the oche in Germany, and has since confirmed his attendance.

Gian van Veen raring to go ahead of Gerwyn Price clash

“Turn up the volume, because we are back,” Van Veen wrote on X.

“Last week has been tough, but nothing beats the feeling of walking back out onto that floor again.

“Night 8 of the Premier League, where I will face Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals. Let’s make some noise.”

Price plays Van Veen in the last quarter-final of night eight in Berlin, and the Welshman will prove to be a tricky opponent.

The 41-year-old is currently third in the table and was world-class during wins over Josh Rock and Luke Humphries last week, averaging 109 against the latter.

Littler then beat Price after somehow coming back from 5-0 down to win 6-5, with the world No. 8 hoping to go one better this week, starting against Van Veen.

Van Veen can make the finals

The battle for the play-offs is an intriguing spectacle. Jonny Clayton and Littler have arguably guaranteed their place at the 02 Arena for Finals Night in London.

Clayton is top of the table on 19 points, while Littler is on 16 after his remarkable victory over Price in last week’s final. In a tightly congested table, only three points separate Price in third from Van Veen in sixth.

The Dutchman can therefore close the deficit between him and the Iceman by winning their quarter-final clash.

Van Veen has made the final three times in this year’s Premier League, but failed to win any of them. Making a fourth will be a huge ask post-surgery, and even just beating Price would be impressive.
