World Cup of Darts draw gives Littler and Humphries a clear route but Wales face early test

England will head to Frankfurt with the strongest look of any nation in the field, and the draw has only reinforced that view. With Luke Littler and Luke Humphries paired together for the 2026 BetVictor World Cup of Darts, the top seeds avoid the group-stage lottery entirely and go straight into the last 16, where the path appears inviting on paper.

Sky Sports reported on Wednesday 3 June 2026 that this year’s World Cup takes place from June 11-14, with all matches live on Sky Sports. The format again gives the top four ranked nations a direct passage into round two, and that matters. England, the Netherlands, reigning champions Northern Ireland and Scotland are all spared the short-format jeopardy of the opening groups, while the rest of the field must battle through 12 groups of three for a place in the knockout phase.

For England, that means Littler and Humphries can arrive in Germany knowing they are already in the business end of the event. Given their individual pedigree and scoring power, that is a major advantage. In a doubles format where rhythm and composure can swing matches quickly, avoiding an early slip-up is half the job done.

England’s route looks clean, but the spotlight will be fierce

The PDC and PDPA pairing information confirmed what most fans expected: England’s line-up is the headline act. Littler brings the explosive aura that changes the mood of any event, while Humphries remains one of the most reliable big-stage performers in the sport. Put together, they are not just favourites for their opening match in round two; they are obvious contenders to win the title outright.

The other seeded nations also look formidable. The Netherlands will field Gian van Veen and Michael van Gerwen, a pairing that mixes youthful momentum with proven major-winning pedigree. Northern Ireland return as defending champions with Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney, while Scotland send Gary Anderson and Cameron Menzies. All four nations should expect to be deep in the conversation by the weekend.

The draw gives England room to settle, and that is exactly what their supporters would want.

Wales do not have that luxury in Group C

Wales are one of the stories to watch for a different reason. Jonny Clayton and debutant Nick Kenny have been placed in Group C alongside Lithuania and Thailand, and that is awkward enough to demand immediate focus. Wales have the quality to come through, but unlike England they do not get the cushion of a bye, and in this format one flat spell can be costly.

Clayton’s experience should settle the team, but Kenny’s debut adds intrigue. It is a good opportunity for him, though also an unforgiving one. Wales have often been one of the most dangerous nations in this event, yet this draw gives them work to do from the first session rather than a clear runway into the knockout stages.

Elsewhere, Germany are in Group A with the Philippines and New Zealand, Australia are in Group G with the USA and Canada, and the Republic of Ireland land in Group D alongside Singapore and Uganda. With 36 teams split into 12 groups of three, only the group winners progress, so there is very little margin for error.

Frankfurt should deliver familiar World Cup drama

The event details published by PDC Europe underline how compact and intense this tournament remains. That is why the seeded nations will be so pleased with their position, and why countries like Wales know there is no easing into it. A strong pair can dominate, but only if they click immediately.

From a fan perspective, the talking point is obvious. England have been handed a clear route, and with Littler and Humphries together anything less than a serious title push would feel underwhelming. Wales, by contrast, face an early examination that could tell us plenty about both Clayton’s leadership and Kenny’s readiness for this stage.
