Peter Wright World Matchplay Route Narrows As Cut-Off Race Updates

Peter Wright’s route back to the World Matchplay has narrowed after the latest live race update left the former world champion outside the provisional Blackpool field.

The World Matchplay race, updated after ET9, shows Ritchie Edhouse occupying the final provisional qualifying place in 32nd on £308,750. Wright is listed 34th on £290,750, with Michael Smith between them on £301,500.

Wright Needs A Late Ranking Push

The PDC qualification structure gives World Matchplay places to the top 16 on the main Order of Merit, followed by the top 16 non-qualified players from the ProTour Order of Merit. The current cut-off is listed as July 8, giving Wright limited time to make up the gap.

  • 32nd: Ritchie Edhouse – £308,750
  • 33rd: Michael Smith – £301,500
  • 34th: Peter Wright – £290,750

That leaves Wright £18,000 short of Edhouse’s provisional line. It also keeps pressure on Smith, whose own position has already been tracked in NineDartNews’ World Matchplay cut-off coverage.

The immediate spotlight is on the US Darts Masters at Madison Square Garden, but Wright’s Blackpool picture will be decided by ranking money, not World Series glamour. For a player with 16 PDC televised titles, missing the Winter Gardens would underline how severe his ranking slide has become, especially with the field now hardening around the final cut-off places.
