Gian Van Veen Handed Fred Krueger Opener At US Darts Masters

Gian van Veen will open his US Darts Masters campaign against American qualifier Fred Krueger in New York on Thursday night, with the Dutchman making his Madison Square Garden debut in the World Series event.

The tie gives Van Veen a clean but potentially awkward entry point into a 16-player field split between eight PDC representatives and eight North American players. Krueger is one of the regional qualifiers added to the line-up for the bet365 event, which runs across June 25-26 at the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden.

The wider draw has already been shaped around the headline names, with Luke Littler facing David Cameron and defending champion Luke Humphries meeting Leonard Gates. Van Veen’s assignment is no softer in context: it is his first chance to translate a fast-rising PDC profile onto a stage built for American growth.

Van Veen Draw Lands In Wide-Open Quarter

The PDC confirmed the US Darts Masters and North American Championship fields before the New York double-header, with the North American Championship also carrying a World Championship place.

Van Veen or Krueger will feed into the same section as Jonny Clayton or Gary Mawson, leaving a realistic route to Friday’s later stages before the semi-finals and final are decided over the closing session.

For Van Veen, this is not just an overseas invite. It is another marker of his arrival among the PDC’s bankable global names.
