Cameron Menzies has revealed he was offered a route back into his old plumbing job after a brutal start to 2026 left him questioning his future in darts.
The Scottish PDC player endured a difficult World Championship exit, then suffered a hand injury after punching a table in frustration. That spell pushed him close enough to the edge that he updated his CV and listened when a former supervisor offered him work away from the oche, according to a fresh interview with talkSPORT on Menzies’ recovery.
Menzies, who had committed full-time to darts after winning his second PDC title in 2025, said hypnotherapy has since helped him deal with anxiety, regain enjoyment and rebuild momentum.
Menzies reset matters before the World Matchplay race
The timing is significant because Menzies has moved from a damaging winter into a more encouraging summer, including his same-day Slovak Darts Open win over Gerwyn Price. His semi-final run for Scotland alongside Gary Anderson at the World Cup of Darts underlined that his game is still capable of standing up under major pressure.
For a player who admitted the thought of returning to plumbing had become real, that turnaround gives the next few weeks a sharper edge. The World Matchplay begins in Blackpool on 18 July, and Menzies is now chasing a place with renewed belief rather than simply trying to survive the aftermath of Alexandra Palace.
The story is not just about form. It is about a professional player finding a way to steady himself before another defining stretch of the PDC season.
