Josh Rock says how he can become ‘untouchable’ in Premier League

Night seven of the Premier League heads to Dublin on Thursday, and Josh Rock is praying his fortunes change.

Rock is sitting bottom of the table after failing to register a victory in the first six weeks of the competition, and he can’t argue with his current position.

The Northern Irishman has recorded the lowest average of any player in the tournament (92.6), whilst 23.21% on the doubles highlights his struggles.

The 24-year-old has shown glimpses of his blockbuster talent, most notably hitting a nine-dart finish in Belfast, only to lose his quarter-final clash against Gian van Veen.

However, Rock will want to record his first victory on the board sooner rather than later, and he has one potential solution.

Josh Rock says he needs to be angrier on the oche

World Cup-winning teammate Daryl Gurney has urged Rock to adopt a tougher mindset against his Premier League rivals.

“Sometimes Josh is just too nice,” Gurney told Tungsten Tales. “He needs to get into his own zone and think, ‘everyone’s here to beat me’, not the other way around.”

Rock agreed with that viewpoint and believes he can become ‘untouchable’ if he channels his anger in the crucial moments.

“Yes, I could do [channel my anger], but I need something to get me angry. I can’t just put it on,” he admitted.

“There are times there’s been matches I’ve been involved in when I’ve put the angry head on because something’s annoyed me during a game or whatever and I’ve been untouchable.

“I just go up there and believe my ability is better than theirs on the night.

“Obviously, it’s not going to plan just at the minute, but that will change.”

Worst Premier League starts

A run of six weeks without a victory has to end if Rock wants to mount a challenge for the play-offs, starting in Dublin with a clash against Gerwyn Price.

Rocky is more than capable of producing sensational darts on the big stage, and maybe a fired-up Price can bring the best out of him on Thursday.

However, if he doesn’t secure a quarter-final victory, he will join an exclusive list of players who failed to win in their first seven weeks in the competition.

That list includes Stephen Bunting, who went eight weeks without winning in 2025 before securing a nightly win in Berlin on night nine.

Rock will want to avoid joining that list, and hopefully, not creating unwanted history will inspire him to victory against Price.
